About the event
Spades is a Black rite of passage. The memories, the music playing in the background, the aunties talking trash, and the whole game within the game happening without anyone saying a word. And yet, so many people never really learned how to play. If YouTube failed you, we got you. Spades Academy is officially in session.
Join us at Co-Space for a fun, beginner-friendly Spades experience designed to help you finally learn the game without the side eye, the yelling, or the pressure. This is a judgment-free zone where we lovingly teach the rules, the strategy, and the culture behind one of our most beloved Black pastimes.
The Night: You’ll begin the night in small groups with an experienced Spades player who will be your instructor, patiently walking you through the game, answer your questions, and get you ready to play. Then at the end of the night, you’ll hop i…

Never learned Spades? Forgot the rules? Still quietly Googling “what is a trump” mid-game? This ticket is for you. Tickets include light bites, drinks & deck of cards to take home.

“I Been Knew How to Play”
You know the rules. You don’t reneg. Aaand you have the patience to teach? The Teacher Ticket is for experienced Spades players who want to help guide the learners, answer questions, and help pass the game down. You will have 2 - 3 learners at your table to teach. At the end of the night, each table will send your learners to play "the big game" against the other newbies! You'll be so proud! You're ticket covers your light bites & drinks, and you'll get to take home a free deck of cards too!
